American actor and comedian Jorge Garcia is well known for his role of ‘Hector Lopez’ on the television show ‘Becker,’ and mainly for his portrayal of ‘Hugo ‘Hurley’ Reyes’ in the television series ‘Lost’ from 2004 to 2010. Some of his other works include starring in television series like ‘Alcatraz,’ playing a minor character role on ABC’s ‘Once Upon a Time,’ and starring as ‘Jerry Ortega’ on ‘Hawaii Five-0.’

While Jorge Garcia has done well in his career as an accomplished actor, he’s not been making progress in one aspect of his personal life: weight loss. We compiled some details of his weight loss efforts over the years and learn how much progress he has made so far.

How Much Weight Loss Has Jorge Garcia Undergone So Far?
Jorge Garcia was an overweight guy from an early age, since his younger years as a child. The thing is he’s never seen it as an issue and is comfortably fine with his body shape. He was never bothered by his body image perception of the people and never worried about it. Even his wife is very happy with his body weight and loves for what he is.

Jorge Garcia’s indulges in unhealthy eating habits all his life, therefore, contributing to his weight gain and obese body shape throughout his adult life. However, he has begun to adopt healthy eating habits in recent years, not as a response to the criticisms by the people regarding his body weight, but just for himself only; his own health and well being.

Jorge Garcia’s size has also been crucial in his acting career, as he gets lots of opportunities to play the role of an overweight person in numerous movies and television series. So, he does not consider his body weight as a curse, rather embraces it as a blessing that has helped his career to propel forward.

Jorge Garcia Has Indeed Lost Weight For Some of His Roles
Jorge Garcia has indeed undergone weight loss for some of his roles. One example is during his casting for the television series ‘Lost’ in 2004. At the time, his castmates and friends worked hard to persuade him to lose weight, and he did so.

As per Entertainment Weekly, Jorge Garcia revealed in Maxim magazine’s March 2006 issue that he lost 30 pounds of weight loss. ‘I can afford to not live on rum and burritos and take better care of myself,’ he told Maxim in 2006. ‘Besides, there were enough people who were waiting for my character to lose weight as a result of being stranded on a desert island.’

But soon, he began gaining weight, and the weight loss effort was of no use. By 2014, his weight peaked at 400 pounds, and that was a big red flag regarding the fact he needed to really make a huge change. He adopted a vegan diet completely, eating vegetarian diets 100% of the time. He got rid of any junk food items and limited his alcohol intake. Most of the people close to him suggested him to undergo gastric coronary bypass surgery, but diet changes did not demand it necessary.
